The Šurany Athletic Club had its founding meeting on March 2, 1979 and was part of the Lokomotíva Šurany Athletics Association. The chairman of the section was Dr. Stanislav Graus and the first officials and coaches of the section included: Jozef Malík, Katarína Maletičová, Ing. Zoltán Tvrdoň, Ing. Miroslav Garaj, František Rybár Ing. Karol Kuťka.
From the beginning, the club´s activities were and still are focused on youth categories, especially on the categories of male and female students. Gradually, as the competitors grew older, some left for school in other cities and some stayed in Šurany. Athletes from Šurany represented the city not only in competitions within the district and region, but also in the Slovak championships. There were also those who, with their sporting performance, made it into the national teams of Slovakia and successfully competed in the European Championships, the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
